Come along and join in - support group in appeal for volunteers

BATCHLEY Support Group is calling for volunteers to help in its 30th anniversary year, writes Tom Banner.

The group provides a range of support groups and one to one support for residents including three youth groups, each for different age groups, providing breakfast groups for school kids and feeding the homeless.

The organisation relies almost entirely on volunteer work to provide these services, and so they are calling on Redditch residents to get involved and

June Barley, one of the trustees of Batchley Support Group, said: “We are desperate for volunteers, as there are only 12 of us right now.

“Volunteering is uplifting as you feel you are contributing to the community.

“We have several new trustees, and with their help we want to create a network of groups helping not just in Batchley, but across Redditch.

“Our main goal is to partner with local social services, councils and organisations to really make a difference.”

The group already has an agreement with local branches of Gregg’s and Aldi, who allow the group to use the day’s left-over food to feed the homeless.

Part of the group’s plan for the future is to provide support to rehabilitated offenders from HMP Hewell so they can re-join society upon release. In addition, they also hope to secure financial support from local businesses and organisations to help keep the group running.
