THE atmosphere is building at the start of the Ovo Energy Tour Series in Redditch.

One of the first top riders on the race track was multiple gold medalist Dame Sarah Storey who was the chosen professional for the Skoda team in the warm-up business race featuring local firms.

A frequent visitor here – she came third two years ago – she said she was delighted to be back in Redditch: “We love Redditch – it’s a difficult course with a steep climb and also a technical bit too. Best of all it’s always got a great atmosphere.”

Redditch’s own Beth Crumpton will be racing for Dame Sarah’s Storey Racing Team, aiming to get rising talents Ejay Harris and Emily Nelson into the breaks to grab the win.

Worcestershire County Councillor Ken Pollock, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Economy and Infrastructure, said: “This is a fantastic event for both Redditch and Worcestershire bringing in something like £400,000 into the local economy in one night. I hope people will come out and enjoy the racing in their thousands.”
