MEMBERS of Special Olympics Redditch turned out to welcome a cycling fund-raiser after a marathon 13-hour ride.

Paul Priestley, who works for logistics firm Transmec Group, rode 140 miles to the company’s Redditch base from his home depot in Bradford.

On day two he cycled 40 miles to and from Transmec’s Worcester warehouse before returning to Bradford the next day – a total of 320 miles.

Staff at the Redditch depot fund-raised on behalf of Special Olympics and £315 was collected for the charity, which provides sporting opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.

Founder of Special Olympics Redditch, Elaine Daykin, said: “We are extremely grateful to Paul and Transmec for their fantastic support.

“The funds are much needed and will help us to continue providing sports training and competition for over 40 of our athletes.”

Paul said: “After such a long ride it was brilliant to receive such a warm welcome at Redditch. I was really touched and it was one of the highlights of the trip.”
