THE Mayor of Redditch, Councillor Juliet Brunner has sent her condolences to her counterpart in Belgium following the murders of three people in the Belgian city of Liege.

Coun Brunner has sent the letter to the Mayor of Liege, Willy Demeyer on behalf of the borough to highlight they are in the thoughts and prayers of Redditch residents.

“As Mayor I am proud to represent Redditch in offering our condolences, but I am also saddened that such atrocities could take place involving many innocent people,” she said.

The gunman, who had been released from jail the day before, shot dead two woman police officers and a civilian on Tuesday, May 29, and had also killed someone the night before the attacks.

Police in Belgium are treating the incident as a terrorist attack and the Islamic State group (IS) has claimed responsibility.

The gunman had also taken a cleaner hostage before being killed by police.
