PEOPLE are being urged to know the risks of diabetes and to seek help if they think they have symptoms.

The call comes from NHS South Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) as the number of people with the condition continues to increase.

This week is national Diabetes Week and doctors say people can reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by making some simple lifestyle changes.

Dr Samir Khan said: “Type 2 diabetes represents a real threat to health and if left untreated can lead to stroke, blindness, heart disease, kidney failure and lower limb amputation.

“The best way to cut your risk is to lose weight by avoiding high fat and sugary foods.

“Increasing your level of exercise is important too and there are lots of ways to do this such as taking the stairs instead of the lift, having a brisk walk or gardening.

“Small changes can have big benefits.”
