A RESIDENT at Parklands Care Home in Callow Hill has received a letter from the Queen after celebrating her 100th birthday last Sunday July 22.

Dorothy Webb, known by friends and family as Dolly, has been at the home since 2012.

She originally moved from Belfast to Faversham with her family when she was very young.

Enthusiastic about her education, which involved examining businesses in the fashion world, she then met and married her late husband, Reginald, before the pair moved to Birmingham in 1939.

When asked about the secret to a long life, Dolly said: “Hard work and keeping physically and mentally active.

“It is something I have adhered to my whole life.”

Dolly worked at various retail outlets including Marks and Spencers and after settling in Selly Oak, the couple started a family and had two boys.

Sadly, they have since passed away but she is still visited by her five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and her daughters-in-law.

For her 100th birthday relatives even flew in from Spain to congratulate her.
