A RESIDENT at The Leys Residential Care Home in Alvechurch celebrated her 100th birthday on August 17 with a visit from family and friends.
Florence Brinkworth, better known as Floss, has been at the care home for more than five years.
She was extremely happy after receiving a birthday card from the Queen but even happier when family and friends came to visit her on her big day.
Janette Westwood, Care Manager at the home, said: “We hosted a garden party for her and it was lovely because so many people turned up.
“We all raised a glass of champagne in honour of her fantastic achievement.”
Floss was originally born in Ladywood, Birmingham and attended St Martins School until the age of 11.
She got her first job sewing clothes for models on the catwalk at Lerose.
On her 21st Birthday Floss received her own sewing machine – something she would continue to use for the next 40 years.
She made her own wedding dress using it and then decided to make dresses for other women as her full-time job.
Floss doesn’t have any children but she does have a niece called Anne Price who visits her regularly and also a nephew, Alan.
