A NEW defibrillator was installed outside a Bromsgrove vets last week in memory of Jack Baker, a teenager who died on rail tracks in Alvechurch in 2017.

Jack’s mum Caroline, a nurse at the Hopwood Veterinary Centre in Cofton Hackett, was ‘chuffed’ to see the lifesaving device installed.

Staff members with the help of their clients, raised enough cash from various fund-raising activities including comedy shows and sponsored walks.

Together they raised more than £1,200 which was enough after Adam Walton, from CardiAid UK, offered the device at a discounted fee.

Cara Alma, practitioner at the vets, said: “We are very pleased to have raised the money needed for the defibrillator.

“We’d like to thank our clients for their donations and generosity.”

A defibrillator gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest.

This defibrillation is an essential lifesaving step in the chain of survival.

Anyone who comes across someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest should call 999 as soon as possible and start CPR before finding if there is a defibrillator nearby.
