A MUM fighting breast cancer has managed to raise £600 for Worcestershire Breast Unit (WBU) by hosting a BBQ event and treating its guests to all types of massages.
Redditch resident Helen Dudley, aged 33, was diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer in July last year and treated at the WBU.
Helen receieved chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy whilst also managing to maintain her full time job as an independent ambassador for Tropic Skincare – which involves pampering people in the comfort of their homes.
She said: “Me and my family wanted to celebrate me coming to the end of my treatment and to thank the workers at Worcestershire Breast Unity for the care they provide.
“I managed to get my wonderful team of local ambassadors to come to the event and offer guests facials, massages and make-overs in exchange for donations.”
The mum of two said she wouldn’t have been able to get through the last year without her son Kieran, aged 11, daughter Leah, aged 6 and husband Adrian who she describes as “her rock.”
Meat for the BBQ, including 48 burgers, 40 sausages and 40 chicken drummers, was donated by Tony Geraghty, owner of Geraghty’s Butchers.
He said: “As a rule we usually have to say no to these requests as we already support the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and also provide free hampers to low earning families.
“But on this occasion it was our absolute pleasure to provide Helen with the food.”
Local businesses such as the Nursery Shop, Webbs Garden Centre and 360 Redditch also got involved by donating prizes for the raffle.
On Tuesday Helen presented a big cheque to WBU and thanked them for all their hard work.
