POLICE believe schoolchildren may be behind a series of fires in Matchborough.

Since the start of summer Eathorpe Close residents say an increasing number of fires have been set by their homes.

A 45-year-old man who lives in the area said: “This is a regular thing, it’s happening all the time.

“We have contacted the police but they are not doing enough about it in my opinion.

“The fires are always very close to our homes and we just find it extremely dangerous.”

Another resident said: “None of us have managed to catch anyone in the act but it’s happened abut 14 times in the last three months.

“Something needs to be done to bring these people to justice.”

Mark Chappell, Safer Neighbourhood Team Inspector for Redditch Policing said: “We have received a number of calls relating to some small fires in and around the area.

“Our SNT officers will have an increased presence around the area to reassure the local community.

“We have identified some of the potential individuals involved and are working with their schools and parents as well as the Fire Service to educate those involved and prevent further offending.”
