THE Alcester branch of the Royal British Legion has set its sights high as it looks to beat its record of £17,000 raised locally at last year’s Poppy appeal.
The launch happened with the help of Alcester Methodist Church, local re-enactment groups and Rory Duff, Alcester Town Crier while the official ribbon cutting ceremony was performed by the town’s Deputy Mayor Gill Forman.
Mike Gittus, chairman of the local branch of the Royal British Legion said: “Saturday was a bitterly cold morning, but the residents of Alcester turned out to mark the beginning of the Poppy Fortnight.
“This is an historic year and I am sure that we will be generous in our support of the armed forces during the next two weeks, wear a poppy with pride all year round.”
