New COPD app dispels myths and gives top advice to Redditch patients

PATIENTS in Redditch with long-term lung conditions are being offered an innovative way to manage their condition.

The MyCOPD app is being offered to people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a long-term lung condition that causes breathing difficulties.

The app is full of useful advice on managing breathing difficulties associated with the condition including inhaler technique videos, tips from experts and a complete online rehabilitation programme.

It’s also aimed at giving accurate advice to patients who may come across other views on the internet.

The clinically approved app can be downloaded onto any smart device such as phones, tablets, computers and smart TVs using a licence code.

Dr Jonathan Leach, clinical lead for COPD said: “This app is an excellent tool which will help our COPD patients understand their condition and transform the way they use healthcare services.

After a patient is diagnosed with COPD, they are usually provided with an information leaflet. Many patients often then use the internet to find further information, which may contain conflicting or inaccurate advice.

“By giving people the MyCOPD app we can ensure they get accurate and helpful information to help them manage their condition and keep themselves well,” said Dr Leach.

Eligible patients can access the app for free – speak to a Practice Nurse, COPD Specialist Nurse or Community Specialist Nurse about setting up an account.
