Redditch student joins Team GB for Muay Thai competition

A YEAR 10 RSA Academy Arrow Vale student is busy celebrating after being selected to become part of Team GB.

Mixed-martial arts fanatic, Ellie Pardy, aged 14, is set to swap Redditich for Lithuania when she joins the team for competition next year.

She was selected by a Team GB scout following her success at the UK Muay Thai Federation British Open Event in February 2018, where she won all of her competitive fights.

Now she will compete again in a foreign country and for the first time in her life, with ‘head contact’.

Mum Emma Pardy said: “I’m so proud of her but I’m not going to be travelling to Lithuania.

“I don’t think anyone in their right mind wants to see their child fight.

“At the event knees and elbows to head are allowed and that terrifies the life out of me.”

Ellie will be in Lithuania for just under a week and her mum says she can’t wait to get started.

“She’s training six times a week and misses out all the parties and other stuff children her age are doing,” added Emma.

“I’m bursting with pride.”
