All welcome - meeting set to make new community orchard a reality

RESIDENTS in Woodrow and Greenland are being invited to discuss the development of their community orchard at a meeting next week.

Local mum Emma Marshall, who came up with the idea, says the orchard is now well on the way to becoming a reality after being featured in the Redditch Standard.

“I just want to meet people in the area, listen to what they have to say and let them know what we’re doing,” said Emma.

The meeting will be in the Mayfly pub on Studley Road, at 7pm on Tuesday January 15.

“It will be chance for people to find out what to expect and how we will be funding the project,” said Emma.

Redditch Borough Council has backed Emma’s plans but she was initially struggling to raise £250 ‘seed’ money to get the scheme off the ground.

But luckily County Councillor Pattie Hill (Lab, Arrow Valley West) offered to help using money from her divisional funds.

The Mayfly pub too stepped in and offered to hold a fundraiser which led to large donations from residents.

“I can’t wait to meet everyone,” said Emma, “There will also be free finger food available.”
