A POEM written by a local resident was sent to the Redditch Standard to mark National Holocaust Memorial Day.
Lynette Wadlow, aged 76, who lives on Birmingham Road, penned the poem called ‘Never Again’ a few years ago.
She said: “I’ve loved poetry since I was a young girl at school.
“It’s been a hobby of mine since I can remember and to this day I keep busy by writing for my local churches.”
Unfortunately Lynette won’t be attending Holocaust Memorial Day in Redditch because she’s housebound.
“But it’s important people do because it’s such a huge part of history.”
NEVER AGAIN
The sound of weeping can be heard
Reaching down across the years
Man’s inhumanity to his fellow man
Evokes an avalanche of tears
What can we do to appease such grief
Such agony and pain?
The answer comes in just two words
A pledge of “Never again.”
Buchenwald, Auschwitz, Belsen
Where the worst atrocities occurred
Places steeped in infamy
Where still no bird song can be heard
As other generations mourn
As memories remain
May our words not go unheeded
Our pledge of “Never Again.”
Throughout our world is suffering
Wrongdoings still prevail
Inhumanity still holds victim
On an unimaginable scale
No matter what our faith or creed
To end war’s needless pain
We must united to speak the words of peace
A pledge of “Never again.”
