A STUDLEY dog owner says he had to jump on a Staffordshire bull terrier and shove his fist down its throat to free his own dog from its jaws.
The incident happened last Friday afternoon as Michael Cotton was walking from Station Road into High Street with his pint-sized terrier Mia.
“The school crossing patrolman was chatting to another man who was standing on the lead of the Staffie,” said Mr Cotton.
“I went off to the right to avoid them when suddenly it shot out between them and attacked my dog. I thought it was going to kill her.
“I literally had to jump on the dog and push my fist down its throat to get her free.”
Mia suffered a serious bite to her chest and to her groin and heavy bruising while Michael had his finger bitten.
“I must admit I was swearing quite a lot, but what a thing to happen. It’s appalling what happened to my dog,” said Mr Cotton.
Students going home from Studley High School witnessed the attack.
“They were great, coming up to me and asking about Mia. They were so good I rang the school up to congratulate them on the behaviour of the pupils.”
Mia was taken to Acorn Veterinary Centre in Station Road, Studley where she was seen immediately and patched up, the bill coming to £38.
The Police have been informed.
