Stratford planners approve Domino Pizza takeaway for Studley

STUDLEY is to get another fast food outlet.

Planners at Stratford District Council on Wednesday evening granted permission for a Domino Pizza takeaway on the site of the old Lloyds Bank.

The plan had been recommended for approval by officers despite objections from local District Councillor Justin Kerridge (Con, Studley and Mappleborough Green), Studley Parish Council and a number of letters from local residents.

In his comments to the Stratford West planning committee Coun Kerridge said: “It does not add to the day time economy by encouraging people to visit and shop elsewhere.

“In fact it detracts from that.

“It creates an unbalanced feel to the village centre. A lack of diversity. It does not reflect the community’s needs.”

He added many new businesses had moved to Studley but he suspected rents were being kept deliberately high “due to landlords hoping for more lucrative takeaway outlets”.

The parish council highlighted the lack of parking, voiced their concerns for safety on the A435 and the high number of takeaways and restaurants, currently at 13 already in the village.

However the highways authority, Warwickshire County Council, raised no objections while in their report officers said: “The proposal will add to the associated economic viability of the village centre and enhance the vitality of the surrounding area.”

The new business will be from 11am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 11am to 12midnight on Friday and Saturday.
