REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean voted against all four of the alternatives to the Prime Minister EU deal which were debated in Parliament on Monday, April 1.

The options were joining a customs union with the EU, much like the old Common Market, which was proposed by former Chancellor of the Exchequer Ken Clarke but which was defeated 276 votes to 273.

Joining a ‘Common Market 2.0’ proposed by Nick Boles MP which would mean joining the European Free Trade Association and European Economic Area, which was defeated 282 votes to 261.

The ‘Kyle-Wilson’ option calling for a people’s vote on any Brexit deal negotiated before it is approved by Parliament, which was defeated 292 votes to 280.

Finally, a proposal to give Parliament the last say which included measures to prevent a ‘No Deal’ exit, stopping Brexit altogether if no extension is offered by the EU and a vote on whether or not to revoke Article 50.

Nadhim Zahawi, MP for Stratford which includes Alcester and Studley in the constituency, also voted against all four alternatives.

Mrs Maclean has made plain her support for the deal negotiated by Mrs May which she says is still the best option on Brexit.
