RUBBISH Friends Redditch rolled up their sleeves to start cleaning up all the fag ends, drink cans and discarded waste dumped around the town’s bandstand on Tuesday.
The initiative came as the town prepares for its first bandstand event of the summer, a vintage day featuring classic Royal Enfield motorcycles scheduled for June 15.
The team of Rochelle Crawford, Steve Pound, Nazmin Matin and Sue, Boon and Li-an Yeng, spent three hours trying to collect all the litter making a sizeable dent in the rubbish left lying around the town landmark and fountain.
“There is still lots around the flowerbeds and benches in the surrounding area – it’s such a shame as it looks so dirty and gives a bad impression,” said Rochelle.
“It was lovely to see people using the space though, a lady sat through her lunch break to eat and read a good few pages of her book.
“I also saw some people later on taking photos of the fountain, so it is very much a place that people like and it should be reclaimed and enjoyed.”
