What a Blinder! Fundraising duo's bumper sum for children's cancer charity

REDDITCH’S very own Peaky Blinders, Dave and Elaine Histon, have raised £1,865 to help children facing cancer treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The couple were inspired to help the Children with Cancer UK charity after Dave ended up in the QE himself to be treated for skin cancer.

He said: “I was stupid, I had skin cancer and did nothing about it for ages until it was too late and lost an eye as a result.

“But the kids there receiving cancer treatment, they were magnificent – and so brave! And when they’d finished their treatment they’d ring a bell in triumph and it was fantastic.”

The couple organised a fund-raising event at Batchley Social Club on the Peaky Blinders theme and backed by wellwishers, donations and support from across the community managed to bring in the bumper sum.

“We had local lass Amy Louise Mulhall who’s in a West End show singing and she was sensational,” said Dave.

Elaine added: “We have to thank everyone who supported us and donated prizes and leant their time and all those who came along.”
