Write on as Rees Foundation launches story contest in Redditch

Redditch Editorial 15th Aug, 2019   0

THE big-hearted Rees Foundation has launched nationwide short story competition, writes Carrie Eddins.

The organisation, based at the Rees Cafe in Church Road, Redditch, is dedicated to supporting those who have experienced care at some point in their lives.

It’s for creative short stories of between 1,000 and 1,500 words and is open to care experienced people aged aged 18 and over.

“Support is available for those who need help and confidence with their writing,” said Rees arts project co-ordinator Kim Cormack, who has herself experienced care.

“We are looking for creative writing, so we invite people to make the writing as fun as possible and entries will not be judged on their grammar.”

The deadline for submissions is September 20 and the awards ceremony will be during Care Leaver’s week October 24-31 at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham.

The judging panel will be made up of artist and poet Sarah Jones, author Lisa Cherry, Rees ambassador Jacqui Adams and Kim herself.

As it is a nationwide competition the charity may also be able to help with travel and accommodation costs for those from outside.
