MORE than 1,000 poppies are cascading inside St Stephen’s Church to create a touching and emotional tribute to those that serve and the fallen from all conflicts.
The poppies have been knitted and crocheted by local residents Noreen Riley and Cynthia Hill.
Their labour of love began in January when they crocheted the curtain to which the poppies are attached.
The members of St Stephen’s Church Crafty Friends Group then spent many hours fixing the poppies to create a wonderful display.
Jean Todd who heads up the group said: “The experience has been a labour of love and absolutely wonderful.
“We wanted to find a way to commemorate and remember all those who have served and are serving and those who fell during the wars.
“It has been so good to work together and to create this poignant mark of respect.”
As well as the curtain of cascading poppies, they have created a wreath of knitted poppies which will be displayed outside the West door of St Stephen’s Church.
The church hosts a service of remembrance on Sunday, November 10 starting at 10.45am at the War Memorial followed by a service inside church at 11.20am.
