Emergency funding saves Woodrush High School from closure

WOODRUSH High School has been saved from closure after being awarded emergency Government funding to repair its heating system.

There was talk of the Wythall school closing down for winter after one of its main boilers packed in, believed to be due to wear and tear.

But after applying for Department for Education funding, a temporary boiler has been installed at the strapped-for-cash secondary school.

Headteacher Ms N Rancins said: “We’re pleased that we have found a short-term solution to our problem while we figure out a long-term solution.

“We will work on the implementation of the first phase of that solution as quickly as possible.

“All parents have been updated throughout this process.

“Our aim will always be to keep our young people in lessons and we are doing everything we can to ensure there is no disruption to their education.”

Last week, one worried parent resorted to setting up a £60,000 crowdfunding appeal to cover the cost of a new heating system at the academy-run school.

Mrs Rancins added: “We are grateful to all the parents, carers, young people and staff who have been extremely understanding and supportive throughout this process.”
