AN Alcester author has landed a deal with Redditch-based Brewin Books to publish a story on his favourite sport – speedway.
Tony Watson has been following the sport for more than 70 years but was distraught when his favourite club, Coventry Bees, was forced to close its popular Brandon track some years ago.
Troubled by what was happening to the sport, last year Tony, now 79, wrote ‘The Last Lap’ a fundraising A4 magazine-style publication lavishly illustrated with photographs by professional photographer Jeff Davies on the club’s final season.
Such was the response that Tony gave its £360 in profits to the British Speedway Young Lions. Now, with Enfield-based Brewin Books he’s hoping to raise even more for the sport he loves.
The softback book costs just £9.95 from Lovely Things in Walford Walk in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, from Brewin at www.brewinbooks.com/ or from Tony at [email protected] .
