REDDITCH youngsters have proudly represented the town in their first ever Dodgeball competition.
Playing for Redditch Fire Dodgeball Club’s Juniors they took part in the Worcestershire Virtual Christmas Dodgeball Tournament on December 21.
The team entered the Under 14s category and found themselves up against two very well-established teams from Willenhall and Bromsgrove, with the latter having players from the newly crowned regional under 14s champions.
The first game really shell-shocked the team but with the support of their coach Simon Preston, they settled in and started to play as a team.
“I couldn’t be any prouder of our team which consisted of four of our Under 14s – Ethan, Callum, Ashley and Jevon – and four of our under 11s,” said Simon.
“Considering half of our team were playing in an age bracket above theirs (and therefore using cloth instead of foam dodgeballs, the Under 11s – Tilly, Zac, Jakub and Xavier – played really well, even eliminating a few of the opposition along the way.
“We knew when we entered it was going to be a tough first outing, especially for the Under 11s but the way the team played together, tried different things out and most of all kept a positive attitude…..As coach, I couldn’t be prouder.”
