Brexit: West Midlands estate agents report decline in new buyer enquiries

Redditch Editorial 5th Jan, 2020   0

MORE than 36 per cent of estate agents in the West Midlands reported a decline in new buyer enquiries last month, according to new data.

During October – and in the face of Halloween Brexit – the housing market also suffered from ‘subdued housing sales’ with 31 per cent of residents reporting a fall in newly agreed sales.

The data, gathered by professional body Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), also shows dips in sales from other parts of the UK.

Many of the agents said they do not expect to see sales increase anytime soon.

Commenting on the survey, Simon Rubinsohn, RICS Chief Economist, said: “Given the upcoming general election next month, it appears unlikely that these trends will pick up to any meaningful extent over the remainder of this year.”
