A DANCING duo tripped the light fantastic last week – at the combined age of 200.
The occasion was the annual Late Christmas Lunch Party of Contact the Elderly Redditch and Bromsgrove held at the exclusive Manor Hill House in Upton Warren.
Spokesman Alan Wodzynski said: “Ken and Ivy dancing was just one of many highlights from the afternoon. Ivy is remarkable, 103 early next year, and she still manages most of her own shopping, cooking and housework.
“Ken has just given up driving at 97. As ever, a number of our volunteers put their chauffeur’s hat on as most of our guests have little access to transport. Our 18 volunteers stayed for the party.
“Entertainment came from the Wyre Forest Big Band, all 19 of them. And entertain they did.
“We all owe a big, big, thank you to The Band; especially the conductor Ian Worton.
“Ian was brilliant at encouraging many of our guests and volunteers to sing and dance to golden oldies they knew and loved; he was also extremely funny and charmed our guests.”
He added: “Over the last four years our local groups have made a huge difference to more than 50 locals who are 75 plus.
“We have exchanged the misery of isolation for smiles and created happy memories.
The most important thank you is to all the customers of our local Tesco stores who voted for us in the April/May 2019 round of Tesco Bags of Help/Groundworks Grant.
“Our project was two party lunches, a Summer one held last September and Sunday’s Christmas Party.”
