ARTWORK created by the 1st Redditch Girls’ Brigade was recently displayed at a special exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

‘The Kindertransport Memorial Flame’ – created by the group – was displayed at a central London venue next to Westminster Abbey.

The piece recreates the branded purple and cerise flame of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.

It also has a collage of luggage labels bearing the names and photographs of Kindertransport children who left their homes and families in order to find safety.

Westminster: Olivia Marks-Woldman (Chief Executive of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust), Cosmo Corfield (Redditch Holocaust Memorial Day Steering Committee), Anna Cardy (1st Redditch Girls’ Brigade) and Simon Winston BEM (a hidden child of the Holocaust who was guest survivor speaker at the 2012 Redditch Holocaust Memorial Day event).

The artwork was seen by survivors of the Holocaust, and other genocides, as part of the ’75 Memorial Flames’ project run by the the Trust.

Hundreds of community groups took part including schools, libraries, Holocaust survivors, refugees, prisons, museums, galleries, businesses, charities and faith organisations.

A panel of experts met to review all of the submitted artworks last November to decide which pieces would be shown at the exhibition.
