THE BEL Canto Singers have taken to the stage for a special concert to mark the retirement of musical director John Clark after 16 years at the helm.

The evening of song, in the choir’s 30th year, was an emotional affair after John’s decision to hang up his baton.

The show was also full of fun and good humour as John was presented with a number of gifts in particular a record of fond memories and photographs of his time leading the choir and of his musical career.

A spokesperson for the choir said: “John’s talent will not be lost however because he is now a much valued member of the bass section and will no doubt keep us all on our toes.”

Bel Canto chair Polly Speers said she would like to thank John for all his hard work and commitment and, all the members past and present wish John a happy and tuneful retirement.

Liz Green has become the choir’s new musical director.

She studied singing and piano at The Royal College of Music London and went on to be Director of Music in King William’s College (Isle of Man) and Warwick Boys School.

Liz was delighted to be asked to step in to direct the choir in the 30th anniversary year.

“We all look forward to a new chapter under Liz’s leadership,” added the spokesperson.

The Bel Canto Singers are excited about the proposed celebratory concert to be held on May 16 at Tudor Grange Academy in Redditch.

The dynamic and friendly choir, which is always looking for new member, meets every Monday at St John’s Church, Greenlands Avenue, Redditch at 7:30pm.
