Redditch Crematorium and town cemeteries are now closed

Redditch Editorial 31st Mar, 2020 Updated: 31st Mar, 2020   0

REDDITCH Crematorium and cemeteries in the borough are now closed to the public with the exception of funerals and burials.

The closures are required under new regulations which are designed to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Mike Birkinshaw, Redditch Borough Council’s bereavement services manager, said: “To help people say goodbye as safely as possible, services are also limited to six mourners only.

“Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.”

Safety measures during services include keeping a minimum distance of two metres (six feet) between people, and mourners are asked to remain in their cars before each service begins.

The distance between pews at Redditch Crematorium has been increased, hymn books removed and the cost of livestreaming ceremonies reduced to £40 to make remote attendance more accessible.
