It's Bank Holiday lockdown party time in Studley this Monday

Redditch Editorial 22nd May, 2020   0

IT’S all going a little bit crazy in Studley this Bank Holiday Monday with the village’s very on ‘Stay at Home Street Party’.

Organised by the helpline team at the Studley Isolation Support Group, it’s mushroomed from a single bright idea into a day-long programme of entertainment with the village’s very own stage star Jen Stone as MC.

streamed live through the power of social media and there will also be big prizes to be won too for all the competitions.

“We’d started to bounce ideas around between us and by last Sunday we’d come up with a plan,” said Jen, who has won a legion of fans across the country through her ‘Aunty Jen’ lockdown Facebook and YouTube readings of famous sketches, poems and monologues.

“It was important to us that it stretched right across the generations and I think the plan at the moment is that I’m going to be on our garage roof in a rocking chair getting things started!”

Respecting social distancing, people’s front lawns, driveways and gardens will be playing a key role in fostering community spirit as the day unfolds with picnics, competitions, readings, music, good food and beverages topped off with a quiz.

“This part of the lockdown process we’re in now is perhaps the hardest,” said Jen.

“The death toll in this country from coronavirus has been horrendous but under the strict lockdown we could just carry on being British.

“But as it’s eased I think people are more anxious and more stressed because suddenly the strict guidelines have gone.

“We’re hoping our Stay at Home Street Party will let people know they are not alone and we can all have a bit of fun too.”

Residents are being urged to come up with a theme for their road or close and it’s hoped everyone will take part in the event.

THE day begins at 10.30am with tea and cake on the front lawn plus ‘Teddy Bear Mask Making’.

At 11.30am it’s up to the garage roof with live story reading from ‘Aunty Jen’ on the SISG Facebook page.

Plus there’s a picnic at 12noon, a Tiktok/Trick Shot Challenge at 2pm, al fresco dining at 6pm a musical interlude on Facebook at 7pm before it’s eyes down for a quiz night at 8pm with prizes on offer throughout the day.
