Plan for the recovery underway as county firms count the cost

ALMOST 70 per cent of businesses in Worcestershire say they have introduced new ways of working since the outbreak of coronavirus.

That’s the finding of an online survey conducted by the County Council, Worcestershire Business Central, HW Chamber and other partners.

In addition more than 1,000 business have been spoken to as evidence is gathered to help inform and support the county’s economic recovery.

Councillor Ken Pollock, cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure at Worcestershire County Council said: “The economic pressure of the Covid-19 pandemic has been felt across the country.

“Here in Worcestershire we are working with partners to understand what businesses are facing during the pandemic, and how we can best support them.

“It has been heartening to see the ways in which many have faced the challenging situation by diversifying output, however for some this has not been possible.

“With partners we are working to identify what can be done to reduce the impact they are facing.”

Of the businesses surveyed 70 per cent have introduced new ways of working.

For many this has meant staff working from home, while some cafes and restaurants have switched to offering takeaway services.

News that non-essential retail businesses will be able to open with social distancing measures from 15th of June, was announced last Monday, May 25.

As the lockdown rules change and more businesses return to previous ways of working, the County Council, with its five district councils and Redditch Borough Council and the Local Enterprise Partnership are meeting regularly to plan their economic response, recovery and resilience.
