£10 charge to those who lose their 'bulky waste' permit

A £10 fee is to be charged to Studley residents who lose their ‘bulky waste collection’ permit.

Parish councillors meeting via Zoom recently heard that such was the demand for replacements they’d soon run out.

And with the next scheduled batch not due until the end of 2022 it would cost £80 to £90 to get an interim supply printed.

Parish clerk Lesley Gailey said some households had received ‘two or three’ permits but they kept on losing them.

The village’s bulky waste collections are held once a month at the Pool Road car park with residents having to show the permit as proof that they live in the village.

Councillor Brian Crow said: “I totally agree with the proposal – there is the cost of printing the permit and we also have to remember this is public money that is being spent and it has to be an acceptable charge.”

Councillors heard the charge would only be levelled for replacement permits; new residents and applicants would still receive theirs for free.

The £10 fee was unanimously voted through.

Parish councillors have also agreed to be the sole nominated organiser of the Remembrance Sunday parade on behalf of the Studley branch of the Royal British Legion.

It follows a request from branch chair Dave Smith who addressed the meeting via Zoom and who explained that following a change of policy by the RBL the branch could no longer be the organiser.

He added that if agreed the local branch would continue to do all the actual organising on the day.

Councillors heard the authority’s own current liability insurance had provision to cover the event.

The request was unanimously approved.

Council chair Coun Colin Summers said: “I think we owe it to those who gave themselves in sacrifice for this country.”

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Studley war memorial.
