A REDDITCH Pride and Diversity March is to be held in the town next June.
The event, on Saturday, June 5, 2021 comes following negotiations between the Redditch LGBQT+ Support Service and borough council officials and will be open to all communities to take part.
The chair of Redditch LGBTQ+ Support Service and Borough Councillor Joe Baker said: “We wanted to set up Redditch’s first official Pride March through the town and we are encouraging all groups and all different faiths to take part.
“It will be a celebration of everyone in the town held under the rainbow flag. It’s also important to state that this will be a totally non-political event.”
The outline of the plan is for a carnival of people starting from Hughes Electrical and travelling along Alcester Street, turning left at the Library and then hopefully taking in a short section of the Kingfisher Shopping Centre before arriving at Church Green and the John Bonham memorial.
“We’re hoping for guest speakers, a cultural tent featuring different community groups and diversity and entertainment.
“Our plan is a real celebration of diversity in the 21st Century.”
Already backing the project are officers at Redditch Police Station.
Redditch Inspector Lee Page said in a tweet: “Just been chatting to @Cllrjoebaker about the early plans being put together for the first Redditch Pride and Diversity March next year.
“Great to see and my team from @RedditchCops will look forward to supporting the event and getting involved.”
