THE show will go on! That’s the message from Studley where a very special socially distanced and professional outdoor production of the A Midsummer’s Night Dream is set to be staged.
They’ve got the venue, they’ve got the stage, and if anyone’s got any lights and fairy wings, the cast would be delighted to hear from you.
The show is a ‘dream’ come true that grew out of the Studley Isolation Support Group which developed to help local residents facing the challenge of Covid-19.
A key figure in the group is actress and director Jen Stone, who, as well as keeping people far and wide entertained with nearly 200 lockdown comedy monologues from her garden shed as Auntie Jen Productions – wanted to bring live entertainment back on stage.
“We’ve got no budget, but thanks to Studley Sports and Social Club we have a venue, and thanks to Allelys Group who’ve provided a truck we have a stage,” said Jen.
“If anyone’s got any solar lights to lend us that would be wonderful and we desperately need fairy wings.”
The six strong cast, all local and all professional from Redditch, Droitwich and Worcester having been busy rehearsing in isolation ever since the government announced its five-stage road map for the entertainment industry to get back to normal.
“This is a huge project, but we’re absolutely thrilled – the bar will be open, plus there will be a barbecue and coffee and cake stall,” said Jen.
“We want to make the production as accessible as possible so we’re still working on ticket prices, but it will be a case of bring your picnic blanket and enjoy a fun packed, family show.”
Three performances are planned – on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 31, August 1 and August 2, the first two scheduled for early evening, the Sunday performance a matinee.
And with a Christmas panto already at the planning stage Auntie Jen Productions look set to go from strength to strength.
