THERE will be ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ and more on playlist when top rock band Toploader plays the Abbey Stadium in Redditch next Saturday, August 22 at a summer ‘drive-in’ concert.
And they’re just part of a fortnight of outdoor entertainment at the sports venue, from tonight, August 14 laid on under the brand Drive and Live.
Also on the roster are UK Pink Floyd (August 23) an evening of comedy with Tom Binns – aka Ivan Brackenbury (August 27) – Circus of Horrors Live (August 28) and The Frankie Valli Story Live Music Show (August 30).
In between there’s a host of blockbuster films with Redditch’s own Violettes all-girl singing group performing at the screening of the hit movie Dirty Dancing starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze.
And promoter James Hollamby is hoping other local stars like Mitch Loveridge and Stuart Woolfenden will join the party as support acts for the bands with singer/songwriter Meg Scane already signed up.
“It will be a drive-in but there will also be some raised seating and standing and everything will be properly socially distanced,” said James.
“All the events we had this year have been cancelled on us and we’re hoping that despite the current conditions the people of Redditch will come along and support these events.”
James, of Enfield-based UK Event Services said they came up with the idea during lockdown and approached Rubicon Leisure and Redditch Borough Council to hire the car park space.
Since then they’ve spent weeks in planning, and are promising something for all age groups.
Sound will be via headphones for people not in vehicles and via a car’s FM radio for drivers and passengers.
The films will be projected onto giant LED video walls.
Tickets range from £10 depending on the show at www.driveandlive.co.uk.
