Covid-19 couldn’t stop marvellous Di Driscoll raising £1,000 at her coffee morning

COVID-19 couldn’t stop the marvellous Di Driscoll from raising more than £1,000 from her renowned Macmillan Coffee Morning last week.

Spread over three gardens to ensure distancing protocol was properly maintained, a steady stream of visitors munched their way through countless cakes and sandwiches at her Vicarage Crescent home.

In fact such was the demand she organised deliveries for those who couldn’t make it.

“Considering the current climate I think it’s a blooming miracle that people not only came along but we raised so much money,” said Di, who this year has raised £2,240 for the hard-pressed charity.

“The neighbours were fantastic, bringing tables and chairs and letting me use the gardens and another friend brought a marquee.”

Donations of £20 were dropped off throughout the day while Di said another friend, Justin Clay ordered a cheesecake and paid £60 for it.

“I told him, that’s an expensive cheesecake, and he said it was the best he’d ever tasted. He then asked how much I’d raised and at the time it was £600 and he’s involved with Redditch United and he said he’d see what he could do and came back later with another £40,” said Di.

The owner of the local Spar gave her £20 to spend on ingredients while Bruno’s Bakery supplied the scones for free and to her contacts at M&S, who despite the store leaving the town, still support her fundraising.

The coffee morning team at Macmillan were equally impressed.

In a letter to her they said: “Please thank everyone who helped you raise such a fantastic amount, you are all amazing!”
