THE village of Holberrow Green remembered on Armistice Day when a small group gathered at the famous oak tree there.
The tree was planted as a War Memorial to those Holborrow Green men who fell in World War I.
Selected by Patrick Farquhar from a sapling in Moreton Hall Wood by Hall Gardeners Tom Ganderton and Herbert Tomlinson, it was planted in 1919.
John Farquhar’s family lived at Moreton Hall Farm while Thomas Ganderton lived in the cottage opposite the tree.
Wreaths were laid on Remembrance Sunday by Rous Lench and Inkberrow Royal British Legion and on Armistice Day, further wreaths were laid by descendants of two of the fallen – Andrew Klusaitis – great nephew of John Farquhar and Rosemary Eadie, whose father fought in World War I and who is the niece of Thomas Henry Ganderton.
