PROPOSALS for a joint waste and recycling contract between Stratford District Council and Warwick District Council have been approved by Stratford’s Cabinet.

Combining waste collections would create a single service across the whole of South Warwickshire, serving 126,000 households.

It will also herald the introduction of ‘123+’ waste collections, with the collection of non-recyclable waste, currently collected every two weeks, moving to once every three weeks.

Councillor Ian Shenton, who holds the operations portfolio at Stratford District Council said: “The new contract, if agreed by Full Council, will commence in August 202.

“The benefits of the new collection model, are increased recycling levels, reduced waste going to landfill, more efficient use of refuse vehicles and reduction in mileage through smarter routing especially on the border between Warwick and Stratford districts.

“The model will also see changes to the food waste collection by not entering the residual, recycling or green waste streams, instead the intention is for it to go to an anaerobic digester further removing harmful greenhouse gases from landfill.”
