POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was killed in a collision on the A46 near Alcester last night, Wednesday, July 14.
Police responded to reports of a collision involving a car and a bicycle on the northbound carriageway of the A46 between Salford Priors and Alcester at approximately 7.20pm.
Ambulance crews, paramedics and an air ambulance were in attendance but despite best efforts, the cyclist, a 47-year-old-man from Birmingham, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
It is believed that the deceased had been taking part in an organised cycle time trial event at the time of the incident.
Cycling clubs regularly hold time trials along that stretch of the A46 dual carriageway, between the Oversley Mill and Salford Priors roundabouts.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was the cyclist.
“Ambulance staff began treating the patient, who had suffered serious injuries in the incident.
“Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
“The driver of the car was assessed and discharged at the scene.”
Next of kin of the deceased have been informed.
Police investigations are continuing. If anyone saw the incident or has dash-cam or other video footage, they are asked to call 101 quoting incident reference 388 of 14 July 2021.
