'A powder keg' - crucial meeting looms to answer key complaints

A RALLYING cry has been issued for residents in Sambourne to attend a crucial parish council meeting tomorrow evening, Monday, August 2.

Sambourne, between Studley and Astwood Bank, is usually seen as a quiet, pleasant village, however it’s currently like a powder keg waiting to explode, and Tuesday night could be the evening it goes off.

On the agenda is ‘Code of Conduct complaints’ relating to emails sent out by the chairman of the parish council Dr Chris Clews.

These emails – running to more than 140 – are said to express views including racism, sexism and Holocaust denial, among other subjects.

Complainants say there are also elements of hate crime, and Warwickshire Police are involved and a crime number has been issued.

An investigation has also been undertaken by the standards and monitoring officer of Stratford District Council, and a report, currently confidential, drawn up.

On the evening Dr Clews is expected to deal with the complaints against him, with the next agenda item being questions from the public.

The meeting is at 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start.
