A MAN and a woman have been arrested after a fatal hit and run in Alvechurch.

The collision happened at 5.50pm and led to the deaths of the 63-year-old pedestrian and his dog.

Two ambulances, the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car were sent to the scene.

The man was in a critical condition and, despite the best efforts of crews, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police put out an appeal after reports the driver involved failed to stop at the scene.

The vehicle involved, which sustained front end damage, has now been located and a 27-year-old man from Hollywood, Worcestershire has been arrested. He is held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and perverting the course of justice.

A 27-year-old woman, also from Hollywood, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Both suspects remain in police custody.

Coun Aled Luckman, the chairman of the West Mercia Police and Crime Panel praised the force’s quick response, including North Worcestershire officers and the Worcestershire Operational Unit team.

Witnesses or anyone with information, dash cam or CCTV footage of the area should call police on 101.
