BUILDING Bridges Redditch CIC opened its doors in Woodrow Centre on Monday 13th September.
The hub, the brainchild of Michelle Bridge has been set up to support people on low incomes and benefits.
The community initiative follows the success of Michelle’s Community Supermarket in Wirral.
Michelle said: “I decided to bring Building Bridges to Woodrow after witnessing first hand the need that is here.
“I have spent the last year in Woodrow and know that Building Bridges can make a real difference here just like it does up in the Wirral.”
The community hub is open Monday to Friday 9 till 6pm with late night opening on Tuesday till 7.30pm providing low cost food, toiletries and cleaning products.
Every penny spent goes back into the hub creating crisis packs for those who can’t afford to buy food at all.
The mantra of the CIC is that It’s the community working for the community.
The store is open to absolutely anybody with no judgement or checks.
All that is asked is that people pay a £1 a year membership fee, all which will be spent on those in need.
Councillor Emma Marshall said: “Michelle has big ideas for Woodrow and I am behind her every step of the way.
“Woodrow has a fantastic community and this hub will help to harness that for the good of everybody.”
The store is taking food donations of both long life and fresh products and is particularly keen for donations of sanitary products to go in their pink bin.
