Tesco turns pink for Race for Life

TESCO in Oakenshaw turned pink last weekend to raise money for Cancer Research UK with staff partaking in the Race for Life.

Mary Gill a Tesco Redditch Community Champion arranged the weekend.

“The community champion job role allows me to help the local community with different projects in the name of Tesco.

“I basically get to help local charities, groups and projects.”

Mary decided to run the race for life as Tesco is a sponsor of the event.

“I wanted to be there to represent the local Tesco but for personal reasons as well.

“My dad and grandmother died of cancer and I ran the face only five days before the six year anniversary of my dads death.”

As well as competing the race, there were activities to do on the day.

“There were people dressed up, a guess how many sweets are in the jar game and then a team of employees ran the 5k on the 3rd of October.

“Just with a bucket collection and in these difficult times we are thrilled to have raised £336.72 with much more being raised via online fund raising.”
