JACOB Bridgewater from Greenlands had wanted to join the Royal Navy since he was 10 years-old and last Friday his dream came true when he completed his Phase 1 training at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.

The gruelling nine week course saw recruits up at 5am and tackling heavy physical training and plenty of class work.

For Jacob it was a difficult journey having to be backtracked after struggling with a chest infection which left him in hospital for a week.

He turned 18 while at Raleigh, tucking into a special birthday cake sent by his Mom.

Jacob is now entering his Phase 2 training where he will learn all the skills needed to be a fully qualified sailor in the Royal Navy.

Jacob joined the Sea Cadets at TS Kingfisher here in Redditch when he was ten where he fell in love with the idea of joining the Royal Navy, going on to pass his Level 3 Public Service award at HoW College this year.

“I’m really looking forward to the next phase in my training and becoming an active part of the Royal Navy family,” he said.
