Court jails Redditch rapist for 18 years after guilty plea

A REDDITCH man who pleaded guilty to seven counts or rape, including one of a child under the age of 13, has been jailed for 18 years.

Richard Tate, 34, admitted his guilt in September and was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court last week.

The case follows a lengthy and thorough investigation by a team of North Worcestershire detectives into the offences which were committed in 2020 and 2021.

Detective Sergeant Paul Willetts said: “Tate committed these horrific offences against a child over a period of time to gain sexual gratification and destroyed a young life.

“I would like to pay tribute and commend the victim in this harrowing case for alerting the police to Tate’s crimes, which has allowed us to bring him to justice.

“We hope the conviction and this substantial prison sentence will bring some measure of comfort.”

Following the sentencing of Tate West Mercia Police said they were committed to seeking justice for rape victims and survivors.
