Gymnast springs forward with Transmec’s support

A YOUNG Redditch gymnast is leaping forward with a little help from logistics company Transmec UK.

Ten-year-old Blake Clarke was chosen to attend a recent training camp at British Gymnastics’ base at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

“The camp was brilliant and the highlight of my gymnastics career so far,” said Blake, a pupil at St Bede’s Middle School.

His selection followed a string of excellent performances, including at the Nottingham Open where he was the best-placed competitor from the West Midlands, coming tenth out of 57 overall.

A member of Earls Gymnastics Club in Halesowen, Blake has been involved in the sport since he was six and currently trains 17.5 hours per week.

His aim is to compete in the Olympics, following in the footsteps of former club member Kristian Thomas who was part of the GB men’s team that won bronze at the London 2012 Games.

Sponsorship from Transmec, which has branches in Redditch and Worcester, is helping to cover the costs of taking part in events held around the UK.

“It’s fantastic that Blake’s talent and dedication is being recognised,” said Daniel Holmes, assistant manager of Transmec UK’s Redditch branch.

“We’re in awe of what he does and really pleased to support him. We’ll be following him with interest and wish him the best of luck.”
