The last few miles: Free e-cargo bike trial for firms and groups

Redditch Editorial 3rd Feb, 2022   0

BUSINESSES, community groups and organisations in Alcester and Studley are being offered the opportunity of a free trial of an e-cargo bike to encourage more people to go green.

It comes after Stratford District Council secured £60,000 in government funding to buy ten e-cargo bikes for the scheme.

The District Council will be providing match funding of £60,000 over five-years to cover the cost for maintenance, servicing, repairs and induction training.

The scheme allows local businesses and organisations to have the bikes on trial for free for up to three months; meaning they don’t have to make a commitment to buy their own e-cargo bike until they have seen whether it will benefit from them or not.

The scheme has been set up in with the Energy Saving Trust and local company, Pashley Cycles who are providing the e-cargo bikes.

Local businesses, organisations and community / voluntary groups are now being encouraged to sign up to the scheme and free trial.

Climate change portfolio holder Councillor Ian Shenton said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for businesses and organisations to sign up to test the scheme out and see if it suits their needs.

“They are robust, chunky cycles with a sturdy box, which cost almost nothing to run, do not emit any pollutants, unlike vans and cars and can help reduce air pollution.

“There’s some amazing local businesses and organisations who are really passionate about the environment and want to do more. We are really pleased to help them access a greener way to travel and deliver their services. I can’t wait to see them on the road.

“Once launched, I really hope that seeing the e-Cargo bikes in use will encourage other businesses and organisations to give one a go helping us to become greener.”
