JOBSEEKERS are being urged to make tracks for Redditch Library this Wednesday, February 23, where the Kickstart scheme is showcasing lots of opportunities with local firms.
Aimed squarely at young people aged 18 to 24 and on Universal Credit, Job Centre Plus manager Gwyn Sherriff said it presented a wonderful chance to find work and learn new skills while filling gaps in the labour market.
“We’ve got employers coming to Redditch Library to talk about the Kickstart opportunities with their businesses before the programme comes to an end,” she said.
“Young people will not get the same chance again for such great career opportunities.”
The government-backed Kickstart scheme lasts for six months, paying the employer so they can offer a proper wage to the young person, as well as offering a financial package to support the new recruit.
“What we are finding is that if the young person shows enthusiasm and keenness to get on the employers are tending to keep them on once the six months is up,” said Gwyn.
“As long as the young person is claiming Universal Credit they can just turn up on the day and we can arrange for them to see some employers.”
The event runs from 10am to 1.30pm. No appointment is necessary, just drop in to find out about the opportunities available.
