Cracking crime: SmartWater roll out underway across Redditch

Redditch Editorial 22nd Feb, 2022   0

THE fight against crime is being stepped up in Redditch thanks to the continued roll out of the SmartWater programme.

It’s being paid for through divisional funds from the borough’s county councillors and match-funded by West Mercia’s Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion.

SmartWater is an invisible liquid which residents can apply to items of value.

The liquid leaves a unique mark which can only be seen under an ultraviolet light, which means valuables, if stolen and subsequently recovered by police, can be returned to their rightful owner.

Leading the role out in Redditch was Councillor Nyear Nazir (Con, Batchley & Brockhill) who said: “As a councillor I am fully committed to the safety of our community and so acquisitive crime is obviously something we want to tackle.

“We are doing this through our SmartWater roll out across the borough with the help of our local Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams and local council.

“This would not be possible without the backing and funding of our county councillors and match funding from the PCC and I’d like to thank them for their support.”
